State of the Arts | Clip | The First Lady of Jazz: Dorthaan Kirk

When jazz legend Rahsaan Roland Kirk died in the 1970s, he left his wife Dorthaan with three children and no job. She turned her contacts in the jazz world into a career, including playing a pivotal role in the start up of WBGO Jazz Radio in Newark, NJ. Now the NEA has honored Kirk with a Jazz Advocate award.
