January 29, 2020 — NEWARK, NJ — Tonight, NJTV News offers an exclusive interview with one of the key players in the now-infamous Bridgegate scandal: Bridget Anne Kelly, former Governor Chris Christie’s deputy chief of staff.  Kelly, who was sentenced to 13 months in prison, sits down one-on-one with NJTV News Correspondent Joanna Gagis to discuss this month’s Supreme Court appeal proceedings that could see the convictions of conspiracy and fraud dismissed for herself and former Port Authority executive Bill Baroni. Kelly shares insight on the scandal, her former boss, the toxic culture in Trenton then and now and the eight words that changed her life forever.  Among her reflections:

On closing lanes to the GWB:

“I did not know it to be criminal, I did not know it to be done with malice. From my understanding, it was a traffic study.”

On the email “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee”:

“Eight words have gotten me into this place in my life where we’ve lost everything.”

On Chris Christie:

“There is no question that Governor Christie knew what was going on at the time.”

“I think the governor should have taken accountability for it. I think that’s what a real boss would do and a real man would do, but not only that, somebody who was responsible.”

On the Supreme Court case:

“If God forbid they do rule against me I believe I will be facing prison.”
