September 6, 2019 – NEWARK, NJ — NJTV, New Jersey’s public television network, announced that its news division, NJTV News, is extending its role as a critical source for local news and information by offering constituents the opportunity to learn more about their local Assembly candidates on its website.

Over the summer, both new and incumbent New Jersey Assembly  candidates running for election this November from all 40 districts were welcomed to the Agnes Varis NJTV Studio in Newark to record a 2-3 minute video for curation on the website. In each video, candidates answered questions about why they are running, their platform positions and other personal anecdotes.

“As New Jersey’s public television network and a source for trusted local news, we take great pride in providing the news and information our neighbors need to make informed decisions for themselves and their families,” said NJTV News Executive Producer Phil Alongi, who also serves as NJTV’s Director of Program Development.  “This unique insight into the ideals of local Assembly candidates seeks to be another tool to help them do just that when they go to the polls in November.”

The videos are now posted on the NJTV News website.

Eligible candidates who may have missed the initial taping opportunity are welcome to make an appointment to record their videos on the make-up date of September 11th from 12pm to 2pm using this link.

Since this exercise has had a positive response, NJTV News is planning to expand opportunities like this to other branches of local government in the future.
