Half-hour broadcast focuses on the role of New Jersey in advancing medicine, energy and agriculture; Community forum in West Orange to follow broadcast in June
May 17, 2019 — WEST ORANGE, NJ — NJTV, New Jersey’s public television network, announced that its next In Your Neighborhood broadcast will explore New Jersey’s history of invention from the Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange. In Your Neighborhood: Innovation premieres on Wednesday, May 22 at 8pm on NJTV (check local listings). The In Your Neighborhood initiative, now in its third year, combines news stories, on-site specials and community engagement events to spotlight some of the state’s most dynamic places, industries and issues. The half-hour Innovation program is hosted by NJTV News Anchor Mary Alice Williams, aptly surrounded by Thomas Edison’s inventions and equipment at the Park throughout the special, and first takes a look at the robust history of innovation in the state. NJTV News Correspondent Briana Vannozzi visits several of the state’s invention hubs including Menlo Park, the Sarnoff Center and the former Bell Labs (now called Bell Works).
NJTV News Business Correspondent Rhonda Schaffler reports on innovation in New Jersey’s pharmaceutical sector, specifically cancer immunotherapy, a field that started here.
Evolution in green energy is the focus of a segment from NJTV News Correspondent Joanna Gagis, who visits a solar energy storage facility in Highland Park.
Lastly, NJTV News Sr. Correspondent Brenda Flanagan digs into agricultural innovations that have taken place at Rutgers University, home to one of the nation’s first agricultural colleges.
NJTV will follow up the In Your Neighborhood broadcast with a community forum next month that concentrates on a different type of innovation on an issue affecting the West Orange community and its neighbors across the state: opioid addiction.
