UPDATED MAY 15, 2017 — NEWARK, NJ — NJTV, New Jersey’s public television network, announced it will co-host two Gubernatorial primary debates this month from the Agnes Varis NJTV Studio in Newark with NJ SpotlightThe debates will be held on consecutive Thursdays, May 11 and 18th, beginning at 8pm each night on NJTV (check local listings).

NJTV’s coverage of the Democratic Primary Gubernatorial debate on May 11th featured four candidates and run 2 hours (featuring 90 minutes of debate time); coverage of the Republican Primary debate featuring two candidates on May 18th will broadcast 90 minutes (with 60 minutes of debate time).

Coverage of the two debate special broadcasts will include commentary and analysis anchored by NJTV News anchor Mary Alice Williams and Correspondent Michael Hill.  The debate Q&A portion of each evening will be moderated by NJTV News Chief Political Correspondent Michael AronNJTV News correspondent David Cruz and NJ Spotlight CEO and Founding Editor John Mooney will contribute with additional questions. NJTV News’ and NJ Spotlight’s editorial teams will collaborate to craft questions and provide social media commentary throughout both nights. #NJPrimaryDebate

The NJTV debates will be broadcast live statewide by NJTV, and live-streamed by NJTV and NJ Spotlight.

  • Press should check in at the main check-in area in the Concourse outside the Studio.
  • Press will have a separate viewing area in the Gateway 2 Conference Room across from the Agnes Varis NJTV Studio. 
  • No video during the debate is permitted.   
  • Pool photos will be provided by the Associated Press.  
  • No outside photographers allowed in the Studio.  No flash photography allowed during the debate in the concourse. 
  • After the debate, the press are invited into the Studio newsroom for post-interviews with candidates that opt to participate.  Flash photography and video is allowed in the post-debate interview area.
