Worker issues top the agenda in Trenton

Several worker misclassification bills passed out of legislative committees. The most controversial one seeks to clarify when a worker is an independent contractor versus an employee. Senate President Steven Sweeney calls that bill “pro-worker,” but other groups spoke out against it, saying freelance and gig economy workers could lose their jobs. The bill approved today did include an important amendment — one that would allow employees who work outside of the office to remain as independent contractors.

Federal officials announced the indictment of two Russian nationals for their alleged involvement in what’s being called one of the worst computer hacking and bank fraud schemes of the past decade.

More New Jersey residents have now been sickened after eating Romaine lettuce tainted with E. coli, according to the latest report from the CDC.
