Red Bank clinic provides free health care to those in need

Physicians volunteer their time at the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank, which offers free health care to those in Monmouth County that don’t have medical insurance or the ability to pay for medical care.

It’s named in honor of Red Bank residents Dr. James Parker, Sr. and his son Dr. James Parker, Jr., who many times didn’t charge their patients.

Gastroenterologist Dr. Gary Weine is one of about 90 medical professionals who volunteer at the location.

“It’s the bonus of retirement — the best thing I could have possibly thought of doing,” Weine said. “I have skills that I could offer to people that need them.”

The health center provides primary care, a number of specialties like cardiology and gynecology, vision screenings, pediatric visits, vaccines, blood work and more. Weine has performed a number of colonoscopies on patients.

Potential patients must be residents of Monmouth County and they have to provide documentation that verifies their income is equal to or less than 300% of the federal poverty guidelines. Since 2000, the staff has provided more than 150,000 visits.
