Parkway, Turnpike Drivers Will Pay More in 2012

Beginning January 1, motorists will begin paying more to drive along New Jersey’s toll roads. The toll hikes are part of two increases that were approved during the Corzine administration and follow a 40 percent increase that went into effect three years ago. On average, a toll of $2.20 on the New Jersey Turnpike will increase to $3.30 and a 70-cent toll on the Garden State Parkway will cost $1.05.

The toll increases are meant to pay for a 10-year, $7 billion capital program that will widen toll roads and encompass other projects to ease congestion, restore bridges, improve toll plazas and expand the use of technology. NJToday’s David Cruz traveled the toll roads and spoke with motorists about the increases.
