The tristate area appears to be taking Gov. Phil Murphy’s lead. Just days after he reversed course on allowing indoor dining, officials in New York City and Philadelphia are following suit. Health experts say indoor activities where you can’t wear masks — like eating and drinking — are still the most dangerous. A national group of researchers and health care experts ranks New Jersey as one of only four states on track to contain COVID-19. The other states are regional partners: New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The state recorded 423 new positive cases overnight for a cumulative total of 171,928. With 45 new deaths reported, there’s now a combined total of 15,078 confirmed and probable deaths caused by the virus. There was an overnight increase in our hospitalizations, up from 992 Tuesday. It was just the second day in a row the state remained below 1,000.
