Mueller finally takes questions before Congress

BY David Cruz, Senior Correspondent |

Robert Mueller was a reluctant witness. For the better part of the morning and afternoon he sat through a withering barrage of speeches from lawmakers presenting partisan statements disguised as questions.

Mueller’s full day included appearances before the House Judiciary Committee in the morning and the Intelligence Committee during an afternoon session. He frequently asked lawmakers to repeat their questions, and more than a hundred times by some counts refused to answer them.

Democrats were hoping Mueller would help make a case for impeachment, while Republicans used the hearings to chip away at his credibility. For all the hype surrounding Wednesday’s hearings, there weren’t any real bombshells, and whether or not anyone watching heard anything to change their minds appears unlikely.
