Menendez Reacts to Reports of Possible Corruption Charges

Sen. Bob Menendez says he’s done nothing wrong. But, there are reports the Justice Department plans to charge him with corruption. The case involves the senator’s personal friendship with a Florida eye doctor. The heart of the matter: has the senator gone to bat for the doctor for monetary gain?

“Let me be very clear, very clear. I have always conducted myself appropriately and in accordance with the law. Every action that I and my office have taken for the last 23 that I have been privileged to be in the United States Congress has been based on pursuing the best policies for the people of New Jersey and of this entire country,” Menendez said.

The senator said he and Dr. Salomon Melgen are friends and have been for more than two decades. “We celebrated holidays together, we have been there for family weddings and sad times like funerals and have given each other birthday, holiday and wedding presents just as friends do.”

Finally, Menendez said because there is an ongoing inquiry, he cannot make additional comments or answer any questions.
