Projected to be the largest jazz festival in the tri-state area with a total 40,000 jazz fans expected to attend, the Jersey City Jazz Festival kicks off 10 days of events this Friday.
The event started as the Riverview Jazz Festival in 2012 with just a few hundred attendees at Riverside Park in Jersey City Heights. This year the event’s been re-branded as the Jersey City Jazz Festival, and for the first time ever will be located in downtown Jersey City.
Senior Correspondent David Cruz speaks with Bryan Beninghove, musician and co-founder and executive director of RiverviewJazz.org, a nonprofit that puts on the fest. They talk about bringing together award-winning artists, rebranding the festival, and what it means to put on a large jazz festival in the heart of Chilltown.
Jersey City Jazz Festival runs from May 31 through June 9.
