Atlantic City’s newest resort, Revel, is scheduled to open April 2. The 6.3 million square foot property has nearly 1,900 rooms, 14 restaurants, two theaters, a spa, acres of landscape gardens and a casino. While Revel is considered a major player in revitalizing Atlantic City and the gaming industry, the resort’s casino floor is just 5 percent of its square footage.
“We’re not focused on gaming,” said Revel’s Executive Director of Public Relations Maureen Siman. “We’re really focused on creating a resort experience. We’re creating something that’s very different than just a casino.”
Casino revenue is down 6.6 percent in the first two months of 2012 compared to last year, so Revel’s approach may be what sets it apart from other gambling competition in Pennsylvania and New York.
The project has employed thousands of construction workers since 2007 and thousands more are in the process of training for the opening, scheduled for April 2. Once open, Revel will have an eight-week preview period when the majority of the resort will be open. The grand opening is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
