International star of stage and screen Candice Bergen has written A Fine Romance. It’s a memoir reflecting on the changes career and marriage and motherhood and simple endurance bring. She could have launched her book tour anywhere, but she chose to do it in New Jersey. The Princeton Health Care System gave NJTV News Anchor Mary Alice Williams the chance to interview a woman whose iconic TV character Murphy Brown gave a lot of women fighting for equal status in TV news a leg to stand on, not to mention a couch to sit on.
Williams appeared on an episode of “Murphy Brown” in 1992 and said the show meant a lot to women in television. She spoke with Bergen at the launch event about the character and some of the backlash about her character having a baby without being married.
