After kicking off the first national tour of his presidential campaign in Newark Saturday, Sen. Cory Booker took his “Justice For All” tour to Sioux City, Iowa.
On Monday — which was tax day — the theme was economic justice, as Booker unveiled a proposal to expand eligibility for the earned income tax credit. The proposal would:
- Hike income eligibility from $54,000 to $90,000 for married couples;
- Increase the maximum credit to $8,000 for married couples and $4,000 for individuals;
- And expand eligibility to low-income students and family caregivers.
Booker’s campaign says 15 million Americans would be lifted out of poverty if this plan were put into effect.
