Advocates, lawmakers question USDA’s plan to roll back school meal nutrition rules

A battle’s brewing over the cost and quality of your kid’s school lunch. The federal government has proposed rolling back nutrition standards and giving schools the right to swap out fruits and vegetables for less expensive meals.

Meantime, the state has allocated millions to help more kids get healthy meals. Monday, the Senate Education Committee held a hearing focused on discussing ways to improve nutrition in school meals.
