The premier event will bring many of the giants of the pro wrestling world to the football stadium on April 7, 2013. Several superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) joined the governor for the announcement this morning. Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson, said “I will electrify MetLife Stadium.”

WrestleMania is WWE’s biggest event. Last year, it drew more than 71,000 fans from all 50 states and 30 countries to the Georgia dome.

A week long celebration will precede the 2013 event featuring activities throughout the New Jersey and New York region. Gov. Chris Christie says “Having WWE’s preeminent international event here will strengthen both the regional and local economies and continue to showcase MetLife Stadium as a world-class venue for sports and entertainment.” WWE officials say the cumulative economic impact of the past 4 events generated 200 million for the host regions.

The 2013 event will mark WrestleMania’s fifth time to the metropolitan region. The event’s marquis wrestlers say they will not disappoint fans when they take center stage at MetLife Stadium next year. WWE superstar John Cena says “I am glad you don’t have a roof here cause we’d blow it off.”
