Trenton City Council fails to pass budget, files injunction against mayor and DCA

The capital city is no closer to passing a budget. In fact, now you can add a lawsuit to the mix.

Members of the Trenton City Council filed an injunction with Mercer County Superior Court over an 11-cent tax increase proposed by Mayor Reed Gusciora. The council did, however, pass resolutions for emergency funds to avoid a government shutdown so workers will get paid on Thursday. But there’s still no resolution to the budget stalemate.

Meanwhile, the Department of Community Affairs rejected the council’s budget proposal and now says the city won’t receive any of it’s $16 million in transitional aid until they vote and agree on a new budget.
