Gov. Phil Murphy’s state budget promotion tour rolled into West Orange Friday where the governor stopped by the high school to tout his education funding initiative.
“Last year we injected more than $350 million back into our classrooms after years of the prior administration’s budget cuts. This year we’re looking to keep increasing funding with an additional $206 million. That is a total of more than half a million in new funding in just two years and that’s what I would call real progress,” Murphy said.
Murphy’s school funding levels are dependent on legislative approval of his budget, not a given since the spending plan includes an expansion of the millionaire’s tax, which legislative leaders have said they won’t support.
