There’s a new resource for reaching the state’s clean energy goals.
Gov. Phil Murphy on Friday signed an executive order establishing a council which will in turn create the Wind Innovation and New Development, or WIND, Institute.
The WIND Institute will be a regional hub and coordinating body tasked with fulfilling Murphy’s goal of 3,500 megawatts of offshore wind by 2030.
“Centralizing the state’s resources under one roof allows us to leverage the considerable expertise at our disposal to enhance our position as a national leader in offshore wind development,” said Murphy.
In June, the state granted its first-ever offshore wind award to Danish company Ørsted, which says its Ocean Wind project will be completed by 2024.
