Look Who’s Talking: A Who’s Who Of Commencement Speakers Around The State

It’s that time of year. A time of achievement, promise and anxiety. To give graduates a sendoff that will inspire and motivate them about their future, schools try to select speakers who will hit just the right note. Some are more high profile than others. They come from the world of enterprise, politics, law, entertainment and media. Take a look at this year’s crop of commencement speakers who hope to impart some words of wisdom to the class of 2012.

May 11 – Drew University
New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Barry Albin at university’s campus in Madison.

May 12 – Centenary College
Bill Evans, senior meteorologist for Channel 7 Eyewitness News.

May 12 – Westminster Choir College
Morton Lauridsen, a composer and professor at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, will be the guest speaker at Westminster Choir College’s ceremonies in Princeton.

May 13 – Rutgers University
Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions and a Rutgers University alumnus, will the keynote speaker at a university-wide ceremony at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway.

May 15 – Fairleigh Dickinson University
Cory Booker will be the guest speaker at the university’s commencement ceremony at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford.

May 15 – New Jersey Institute of Technology
Javad K. Hassan, founder of the Nest Group, a worldwide technology business, will be the guest speaker at NJIT’s ceremonies at the Prudential Center in Newark.

May 16 – Monmouth University
President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Mark A. Emmert will be the guest speaker at Monmouth University’s commencement ceremony at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.

May 16 – Ramapo College of New Jersey
CBS News anchor Chris Wragge will speak at the College’s 54th annual commencement ceremony at Prudential Center in Newark.

May 17 – Kean University
Actress America Ferrera will speak to graduates at Kean University during a May 17 ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark.

May 18 – Montclair state University
Victoria Reggie Kennedy, an attorney and widow of the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), will be speak at the university’s commencement exercises, which will also will take place at the IZOD Center.

May 21 – Seton Hall University
Scott Chesney, motivational speaker and executive director of Raise Hope Foundation, will be the guest speaker at Seton Hall’s baccalaureate commencement ceremony at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford.

May 21 – Saint Peter’s College
Bangladeshi diplomat Anwarul K. Chowdhury will address the Class of 2012 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.

May 22 – William Paterson University
U.S. Undersecretary of State Maria Otero will give William Paterson University’s commencement address May 22 at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford.

June 3-4 – Princeton University
Alumnus, journalist and Moneyball author Michael Lewis will be the guest speaker at Princeton University’s baccalaureate on June 3 in the University Chapel.
For Princeton’s June 4 Class Day Ceremony, Actor Steve Carell will be the guest speaker.
