Governor Christie Meets with Portuguese Ambassador

By David Cruz

Governor Chris Christie was in Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood, meeting with Nuno Brito, Portugal’s ambassador to the U.S. The two were said to be discussing ways for New Jersey and Portugal to cooperate on economic, educational and cultural issues.

“He’s been on fire,” said Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo, one of several Essex County Democrats who attended the event. “He has been all over the place and doing a good job putting the state of New Jersey out there in front of the country.”

The Governor and Ambassador Brito spent about 30 minutes together, meeting privately. Then the two met customers at the Sol-Mar restaurant, where the Governor said he was a frequent guest while he served as U.S. Attorney. The two ordered lunch to go, and declined to answer any questions.
