A Brooklyn woman has tested positive for hepatitis B after having a procedure at HealthPlus surgery center in Saddle Brook. The center warned nearly 3,800 patients they may have been exposed to hepatitis B, C and HIV.
She is the first known former patient of HealthPlus to test positive for a bloodborne pathogen after receiving a letter from the center warning her of possible exposure.
A recent report from the Health Department found HealthPlus used an outdated infection control plan and unacceptable sterilization practices.
A corrective plan has been put in place and the center says two employees have been fired.
