Day three of Menendez trial delves into finances

Day 3 of the Menendez trial was all about credit card points and visas for foreign young women.

Sen. Bob Menendez is accused of accepting bribes in return for official favors.

The vice-president of American Express rewards program testified it could take 30 years for Menendez to accumulate the 649,000 rewards points his friend Salomon Melgen loaned him.

A former staffer of Menendez testified about the extensive help Melgen got from Menendez’s office to get student visas for young women the government describes as Melgen’s foreign “girlfriends.”

The defense says Menendez and Melgen have been best friends for 20 years, and friendship is not bribery.
