Meet silversmith, conservator, MacArthur Genius, and Maplewood resident Ubaldo Vitali , a fourth generation silversmith from Rome who moved to the US in 1967. Plus, a studio visit with sculptor Jedediah Morfit. His bas-relief technique is modeled after ancient ceramic friezes, but his parts are made of urethane plastic and full of contemporary symbolism. “The Convert” is a play by actress/playwright Danai Gurira (“The Walking Dead”) set in colonial Zimbabwe; it premiered at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton. The venue on this week’s State of the Arts is the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts in Morristown, NJ, where Irish music virtuoso Frankie Gavin played with De Dannan.
