LIVE Coverage: Christie to Hold Trenton Press Conference

One day after an internal investigation found Gov. Chris Christie had no involvement in the George Washington Bridge lane closures, the governor has scheduled a press conference with a question and answer session Friday at 2:30 p.m.

  • Tothian

Cory Booker has lied. Crime didn’t go down in Newark. And he DOES run away from problems.

    http://www.BookerFAIL.com

  • Tothian

Rush Holt has made sense about repealing the Patriot Act and defending the 4th Amendment.

Sheila Oliver is contradicting herself. Not giving a clear answer.

    • Tothian

Alright. Sheila supports it. Not good.

Frank Pallone seems to be against the NSA spying on everyone. That’s good. But he’s also too supportive of Obamacare.

  • Tothian

Cory Booker is just rambling. He didn’t really give a clear answer.

  • Lucy D. Walker

How many schools closed in Newark, Mayor Booker? Where did the children go that attended those schools? What conditions were created in the schools because of the closings? Do you eat when you are hungry? Of course you do. You and Cami took that away from the children when you packed them into the Newark schools after those closings. Make a note of it.

  • Wendy

All four candidates are brilliant. Either one will serve New Jersey well.

    • Tothian

You’re wrong. Rush Holt is the closest one to being good. The most intelligent and also protecting the 4th Amendment.

But aside from that, please check out supporting Steve Lonegan for U.S. Senate.

  • Wendy

Oliver made a great point in pointing out our dependence on contractors. Where is the quality control? As mercenaries how can we possible feel they can and will be loyal?

    • Tothian

If America didn’t violate the 4th Amendment, then we wouldn’t have had been in such a position.

  • BlueBird

Many in the State only really care about Booker and Holt. I would love a debate with just the two of them. I don’t need to hear from the other two, no offense intended.

    • Wendy

I think it is bad that we are assuming that Booker will win. No, all of these four, very bright candidates should be heard. This is not a race Booker should take for granted.

    • Eric B

I am of the Holt camp, but Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver has made some good points. I knew nothing about her compared to the other three either.

Why don’t you need to hear from others? That is just a poor attitude. We need more minds in politics. It is rare we ever get to hear more than two opposing sides.

  • bunnymusic60

    I would really like to hear more about the state of NJ.;

    • Tothian

The Democrats don’t know – nor care – much about what is going on here. You want answers go to http://www.LoneganForSenate.com

      • bunnymusic60

        Go play with the Republicans!

        • Tothian

I do that too. They understand how politics should be.

I still need to show the Democrats the truth. They’re too deceived by the liberal media.

  • louv55

Pallone talked about past environment protection achievements- I like that! , but he is not hawkish enough with defending US in a dangerous world and seems too liberal. Booker’s good point so far was his support of Russia, but he is also too soft on defense, not siding with NSA. Oliver emphasized her experience with the whole state of NJ- good point; and she is ok with NSA protecting us; very nice. So far, Oliver is the big surprise here – she seems to have the best balance and courage thus far; she is not afraid to take an “independent” common sense stand depending on the issue. Oliver had GREAT point on Snowden issue; asking most important question on outsourcing and why did the young man get that much info to begin with. Oliver seems the best, however only half hour into debate………

  • newarkbluesman

the tragic murders in Newark are on Booker’s watch. He will care about you just as much as he cares about the dead bodies in his wake.

  • bunnymusic60

What do you want to do about Social Security and Medicare?

  • Grandma Rachel

State Sen. Oliver just lost me on the Syria question. Whatever we do will be wrong. Rep. Holt reminds us – the arms we left with the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan are now being used against us. STAY AWAY!

    • magicaldustman

I was actually hoping someone would make that point

  • Al

Cory Booker did not only lie about he declining crime rate in Newark. He is a friend of Wall Street. He could care less about the middle class. He pals around with John Walton and Mark Zuckerberg to destroy public education and to trun it over the big business. He hates unions. He’s a buddy of Chris Christie. I would not even consider him a democrat. I’m going with Rush Holt.

  • Tothian

Shut up Pallone. Don’t bash the Tea Party. We believe in protecting our liberties guaranteed in the Constitution, lowering taxes and not spending MORE than the government makes!

    • glassman

The tea party is only interested in protecting the second half of the second ammendment.

      • Tothian

No. The entire thing. Even the part about Militias. Although they just aren’t as common so it hasn’t came up in the debate as often.

        • glassman

But people not in a militia still get unlimited access to any kind of weaponry for any reason? Sorry, your words are hollow. The actions of the tea party support my statement, not yours.

          • Tothian

No. You’re wrong and I am right about this. There is no debate about that. As Steve Lonegan said, we already had this debate 237 years ago.

The Founding Fathers set a system in to place. Perhaps you heard of it. It’s called the United States Constitution.

Remember this acronym. TIC. Tyranny, Invasion, and Crime. That’s EXACTLY why people in a “Well-Regulated Militia” should have access to any weapon they need. To protect the people from those 3 things.

If you think that we deserve a royalty where the people are accountable to, and owned by, the government, rather than people owning the government that they elect, then go back to England. I’m sure you’ll love it there.

But over here, this is America, where we like our liberty. Don’t tread on us.

          • glassman

No, you’re wrong and I’m right, so there.

    • joe

Pallone has abused the constitution. He has backed the use of eminent domain as economic redevelopment. He’s a dumb a$$

  • Peggy Sue

Pallone and Holt doing a great job. much better than Booker and I really like him. This is what is so great about debates.

  • freedomlady

Not one idea for NJ’s economic revival

    • Eric B

To be fair, not one question yet either. Then again, this is for US senator, not state senate.

    • glassman

I thought business was supposed to do that, not the government.

    • bunnymusic60

I agree completely. What’s up with NJ? These people are running for Senator of NJ!

      • Eric B

US Senate makes national decisions. This is not for state senate.

  • Wendy

Downtown Newark still looks like a big, sad slum. What is Booker talking about? He didn’t do it in Newark. We need to consider other candidates — Holt, Oliver and Pallone are candidates we need to fully consider.

  • bunnymusic60

If your income is $500K a year you should pay the same income tax as those making $50K.

  • bunnymusic60

Fig Newtons are now made in Mexico for God’s sake!!!

  • BlueBird

Wow, I had never heard of Sheila Oliver before tonight. She is a powerhouse. I am impressed.

    • Wendy

I think Oliver is fantastic. I have seen her speak about older suburbs and other issues before. She states her opinions in a very clear, analytical way. Her candidacy should be taken seriously. She is not all smoke and mirrors.

      • bunnymusic60

I am also impressed with Oliver.

  • barretttech

Cory Booker is a great candidate for Senator.

    • bunnymusic60

      I think so too.

    • BUNNYMUSIC60

STOP LUSTING, HE DOES NOT WANT YOU!

  • Al

Note that eveyone has a great deal of insight on issues EXCEPT for Booker. He just says all what you want to hear….DID HE JUST SAY THAT HE CARES ABOUT PUBLIC SCHOOLS…..LIE, LIE, LIE….HE HATES TEACHERS AND PUBLIC EDUCTION…… HE WANTS IT TURNED OVER TO BUSINESS. LIAR….

  • Tothian

Expanding the school day? That creates depression in the youth.

And where did that one million go? It should have went to new tables and books for the students. Not just for the teachers.

  • Al

Go RUSH….BOOKER IS A VOUCHER MAN…..Vouchers are simply a way to filter tax money to private business…..

    • Al

      Booker lies….He is a CHRISTIE SUPPORTOR…..

  • Kate

As a mother of two children in NJ public schools, I’m with Rush Holt!!! We need to invest in schools and not turn schools into a market-based enterprise. We MUST invest in teachers!

    • http://euonymous.wordpress.com euonymous

Kate… wait till your kids are in college and you go through the college loan morass. Schools are market-based enterprises already. It’s been creeping into the social fabric for years. If you get involved in your local schools you will learn more about how up-to-date your kids’ teachers really are. Why do you think the USA is now #27 in the list of countries with respect to math skills? Many of our teachers are, frankly, not all that good. What are you going to do about the teachers unions and existing ineffective K-12 teachers? We need a major shift in the US educational system, not some feel-good, sound-good, short term band-aid on the problem. I’m not impressed with Holt. Glib, play-to-the-crowd answers are not a strategy I’d trust going forward.

      • Citizen CoKain

So then you better not vote for Booker because that’s all you’ll get!

      • joe wayne

There are not that good because their jobs are in jeopardy and they get paid nothing so most good teachers leave

        • AverageJoe

Glad you are talking about Teachers and Education with that great penmanship. Where did you go to school? Great example.

  • Will

    BOOKER FOR SENATE!

    • bunnymusic60

Who is Tothian? A Republican wants to listen to a Democratic debate! Yeah!

  • Eric B

Yes. Single payer. “Obamacare” might be better than nothing, but it is also capitalism at its worst. Mandating you give businesses your money, and all those businesses jacked up rates the moment it was passed.

  • Citizen CoKain

Go Senator Oliver! Pull down the curtain of hyperbole and lies in the city of Oz aka Newark. We see the Wizard clearly with all of his tricks.

  • Citizen CoKain

NY Times removed this comment from their endorsement this weekend, but they can’t remove it from here:

    • bunnymusic60

Since this debate I’m considering voting for Sheila Oliver. We need more women in government.

      • Eric B

That is a blatantly sexist view. I never heard of her before today, and after this, I would be happy to have her in the US Senate. However, we need better PEOPLE in the Senate regardless of race, sex, creed, etc.

        • bunnymusic60

          I agree

  • HELLO

    SHEILA OLIVER FOR U.S. SENATOR.

raising the conversation about jobs situation, there was not one comment on our job situation here in NJ 45 in counrty is a huge problem. When you brag how good things are you are not looking at keeping ahead.
