Salinger vs. Hemingway in Characters Voicing Their Sincerity

Salinger isn't a writer of scenery, he's a writer of characters who strive for sincerity in characters such as Seymour Glass. Bookworm radio host Michael Silverblatt describes Salinger as a "go for your throat kind of writer" in terms of the need his characters have to express themselves. He contrasts Salinger's narratives with those of Hemingway, the much more established writer of his time.
