Candidate For Lt. Governor

They discuss an array of topics from her qualifications for office to gun control legislation to Governor Chris Christie’s political aspirations.  Some quotes from the interview:

On her qualifications for Lt. Governor, and potentially Governor, Silva says: “I have street smarts in that I understand what it means to stand up for the people in your communities.  I have book smarts in that I am a graduate of Columbia University and I understand how important it is that we invest in higher education… I have common sense, in that I understand that the working people need to have a strong economy.”

Regarding Governor Christie’s political aspirations, she comments, “Governor Christie has made decisions that are in a way to advantage what are his personal ambitions and not the people of New Jersey.”

Also in this week’s On the Record episode,  a Governors’ Perspectives with Kent Manahan featuring discussion with former governors Christine Todd Whitman and Brendan Byrne about NJPAC in Newark, a decade and a half after it opened its doors.

  • The HBO hit series “Boardwalk Empire” tells the story of Atlantic City gangster boss “Nucky” Johnson. Get the real story as State of the Arts meets author and historian Nelson Johnson, writer of the best-selling book on which the TV series is based.
  • Teens from Trenton ask whether the troubled city holds any promise for their future in a new play created with Passage Theatre, and performed in the revitalized Gandhi Garden.
  • Visit an under-the-radar house concert series in Ringwood, NJ called Live@Drew’s, where critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur debuted material from his new album The Ballad of Boogie Christ.

As a companion to this week’s debut of the PBS national Hispanic Heritage series Latino Americans, NJTV, New Jersey’s public television network has produced

Latino Americans of NY & NJ, a half-hour documentary exploring the diverse cultural influences Latinos have brought to the New York/New Jersey metro area. The local documentary and its companion website highlight this large community’s rich culture and influence in our area, drawing from personal stories and expert insight in Latino history and culture.

The program’s website http://www.thirteen.org/latino-americans-ny-nj/ is an interactive diary of Latino viewer experiences, and will continue to archive stories far beyond the broadcast.

THE NEW JERSEY GUBERNATORIAL DEBATE

Tuesday, 10/15 at 8pm

Montclair State University will host the state’s second gubernatorial debate of the 2013 election season at the university’s Alexander Kasser Theater on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 8 – 9:30pm ET (check local listings). The debate between Governor Chris Christie and State Senator Barbara Buono will be broadcast statewide on NJTV, New Jersey’s public television network. The 90-minute debate broadcast, entitled NJDecides 2013: The New Jersey Gubernatorial Debate, will be moderated by NJ Today’s managing editor and anchor Mike Schneider.
