February 11, 2013 – Hackensack, NJ – The YWCA Bergen County, in collaboration with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Bergen/Passaic Chapter, and THIRTEEN, is sponsoring a screening of the powerful documentary, “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide,” on Saturday, March 2, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Bergen Community College’s Ciccone Theater in Paramus, NJ.
The screening of a portion of the film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Jamie Gordon, Executive Producer of “Half the Sky”, New Jersey Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, and anti-human trafficking advocate Ingrid Johnson. Topics will include sex trafficking of women and teens and economic disparity of women. This event is free to the public and light refreshments will be served.
“Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide” (www.halftheskymovement.org), which premiered on PBS, introduces courageous individuals across the globe who are working to confront oppression and empower women and girls to become agents of change.
