TONIGHT ON NJTV

  NJ TODAY

Weeknights at 6, 7:30 and 11pm

  • Tonight: Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-36), the Senate’s Deputy Majority Leader who serves as Chairman of the Budget & Appropriations Committee, speaks with NJ Today Managing Editor Mike Schneider about the progress of the state budget in light of new state figures showing a $351 million shortfall for the fiscal year.  Sarlo says the shortfall could be higher than that and tax cut plans are being put on hold as the numbers are being worked out.   “At this point in time,” he says, ”I believe we’re going to need to do some serious cutting both to get the current budget level and balanced and to go forward.”

Watch Sarlo’s interview now.

  • Sen. Fred Madden Jr.(D-4) discusses legislation he introduced that would define handheld cell phone use by motorists as reckless driving, and another bill that would increase screening of student athletes for heart conditions.

New! DRIVING JERSEY: Rockit!

Premieres Wednesday, May 23rd at 10:30pm

In a former barber shop, in the shadow of the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, something special is happening…you can hear it from a block away.  It’s the sound of rock n’ roll.  It draws you in.  Almost everyone who stops to peer in through the window blinds assumes it is a warm up for whatever a-list rocker or rock band is playing at the famed venue next door. But it’s actually music being played by kids…just old enough to and drum and wail their coming-of-age angst and inspiration.  Meet the young musicians of the Rockit school of music created by Middletown’s Bruce Gallipani, who dedicates himself to cultivating these performers of the future.
