As a major winter storm pummeled New Jersey, many of those trying to travel by air were grounded. NJTV News Correspondent David Cruz was at Newark Liberty International Airport today and he told NJTV News Managing Editor Mike Schneider that many flights were canceled, though some began taking off in the afternoon.
Cruz said the airport became a large waiting room with many people sitting around waiting to take off. While some flights began leaving between 3:30 and 4 p.m., many more will not take off tonight. He said he encountered frustrated passengers, but not many were angry because they saw the effects of the storm.
Many passengers were paying close attention to the schedule board, according to Cruz, and if they thought there was a chance of taking off tonight, they were staying in the airport. But those who saw canceled flights headed back to where they were staying or booked rooms in area hotels.
