Woman killed, husband hurt in NJ crash

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — Police say a 77-year-old woman has been killed and her husband has been seriously injured after their car collided with a pickup truck in Toms River.

Police Chief Michael Mastronardy tells The Star-Ledger (bit.ly/1cvXt3M) the accident happened around 5:15 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Route 70. He says the woman, a passenger in her husband’s vehicle, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her 88-year-old husband was taken by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune in serious condition.

Mastronardy says the husband was making a left turn when his vehicle crashed into the pickup truck. The other driver declined medical treatment.
