Officials: Water service restored in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Jersey City officials say a major water main break that affected service there for several hours has been repaired.

Authorities said water pressure had risen to appropriate levels by late Wednesday afternoon and service had been restored to nearly all affected customers. But a boil water advisory will remain in effect until at least Thursday afternoon as a precaution.

United Water emergency crews had pinpointed the 12-inch water main break shortly before noon Wednesday. Water tankers were set up in the city’s downtown area after the break was discovered and remained in place while repairs were being made.

Several city schools dismissed students early on Wednesday due to the water issues.
