3-5-14

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the crash of a single-engine plane at Atlantic City International Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the Piper Cherokee PA28 developed an engine problem soon after taking off from the airport on Tuesday afternoon. The pilot, who was the only person aboard, was trying to return when the plane went down on airport property and clipped a fence.

South Jersey Transportation Authority spokesman Kevin Rehmann tells The Press of Atlantic City (http://bit.ly/1g9HnP7 ) the pilot exited the wreckage seemingly unharmed. The plane sustained substantial damage.

The pilot’s name has not been released.
