Port Authority: 8 NYC toll scofflaws owe $242,000

8-15-14

NEW YORK (AP) — The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says eight Staten Island toll scofflaws owe the agency a total of nearly a quarter of a million dollars.

The Staten Island Advance (http://bit.ly/1rzP2gE ) says the agency recently filed a flurry of lawsuits seeking $242,694 for unpaid bridge and tunnel tolls and hefty administrative fees.

It alleges the top offender failed to pay tolls 507 times between Aug. 8, 2012, and Feb. 28, 2014. That bill comes to $6,492 in tolls and $25,350 in fees.

The Port Authority controls the Outerbridge Crossing and Goethals and Bayonne bridges on Staten Island, along with the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln and Holland tunnels in Manhattan. All six bridges and tunnels link with New Jersey.
