JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Jersey City school officials say a seventh-grade student brought a loaded handgun to his school.
A school district spokeswoman tells The Jersey Journal (http://bit.ly/1dqDFVg) that officials learned about the weapon late Monday morning.
She said a 14-year-old boy allegedly showed the .22-caliber weapon to a fellow student in a bathroom at School 38 and may have threatened him. The student who was shown the gun told a teacher, who notified school security.
A security officer confiscated the gun around 11:15 a.m., and the student’s parents were called. The boy was taken to the Jersey City police’s Juvenile Bureau, and it was not immediately known what charges, if any, he would face.
No injuries were reported, and the school was never placed under lockdown.
