No injuries reported in NJ Turnpike bus fire

CARTERET, N.J. (AP) — No injuries were reported when a bus caught fire on the New Jersey Turnpike.

But it’s not yet known what sparked the blaze, which happened shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday near milemarker 95.7 in Carteret.

WABC-TV (http://7ny.tv/RURnGF) reports the bus was occupied at the time and everyone aboard safely escaped. But it wasn’t immediately clear how many passengers were on board when the fire broke out.

The fire sent plumes of thick, black smoke spewing high into the sky, and authorities shut down a northbound lane of the highway in the area while investigators inspected the burned-out bus. But no major traffic problems were reported.
