NJ sports director charged with teen sex assault

DUNELLEN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in Middlesex County say the director of recreation for the borough of Dunellen has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage basketball player.

The Middlesex County prosecutor’s office says Christopher Tarver was arrested Tuesday in Jackson and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, sexual assault and criminal sexual contact.

It is not immediately known if he has an attorney.

Prosecutors allege the 43-year-old Jackson Township resident sexually assaulted a male teenager who was a member of his travelling Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball team.

Authorities say Tarver has been the Dunellen recreation director since 2004 and formerly coached the Middlesex County College basketball team.

He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center on $225,000 bail.
