FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey state senator says the announcement of reform measures for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was canceled because the legislative bills were not ready yet.
Lawmakers from both states had been planning to reveal a plan at a news conference Friday in Fort Lee, New Jersey. But the event was canceled little more than an hour before it was to take place.
Sen. Loretta Weinberg says lawmakers were trying to rush legislation before New York lawmakers go on break next month.
But she says the measures dealing with transparency of the agency and its structure were too complex to hash out completely.
Both states would have to pass the same legislation to make changes in the Port Authority, which runs the George Washington Bridge.
