NJ doctor admits taking kickbacks

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A northern New Jersey doctor has admitted taking cash kickbacks in return for referring patients to a diagnostic testing facility.

Dr. John Green of Basking Ridge on Thursday pleaded guilty to violating the federal health care anti-kickback law.

The 60-year-old physician practiced gastroenterology and internal medicine in West Orange.

Prosecutors say Green solicited and received more than $14,000 from Orange MRI in exchange for scans he referred to the diagnostic facility during a three-year period.

He’s the 13th doctor convicted in connection with the federal government’s probe of the facility.

Green faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he’s sentenced in March.
