NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Officials at the Port Authority say service on the AirTrain that serves Newark Liberty International Airport will be suspended for 75 days starting on May 1.
The Port Authority says the shutdown is necessary to perform critical repair work on the system.
The AirTrain station that links to New Jersey Transit and Amtrak trains along the Northeast Corridor rail line will also be closed during the service suspension.
Shuttle buses will provide service between terminals and airport parking lots and rental car areas during the shutdown.
Substitute shuttle bus service will also be provided from Newark Penn Station.
Officials say the structure is safe but there are signs of erosion along the system’s 6.3-mile running surface and repairs are needed.
