New service for Raritan Valley rail riders

3-3-14

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Some Raritan Valley Line rail riders won’t have to change trains in Newark anymore.

New Jersey Transit on Monday will launch a new service that offers one-seat rides on the line into New York City during off-peak hours.

Raritan line trains are diesel and electric trains operate on the Northeast Corridor into New York. Under the pilot program, one-seat locomotives will switch to electric and passengers can stay on the trains.

NJ Transit says five trains will operate the special service into the city and five outbound.

Because of capacity limits, the service can’t be expanded to peak hours.
