NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A prosecutor with two decades of experience in law enforcement has been tapped to head the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Andrew Carey was sworn in Friday at the Middlesex County building in New Brunswick.
Carey has held the position in an acting capacity for more than a year.
He was nominated by Gov. Chris Christie in 2013, after working in the U.S. attorney’s office in Newark since 2005. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant district attorney in the New York District Attorney’s Office in Manhattan.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is one of the busiest in the state, overseeing 28 municipal and university police departments and handling more than 6,000 criminal complaints a year.
