JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Child endangerment charges have been filed against a northern New Jersey mother accused of fatally beating her toddler daughter.
The Jersey Journal (http://bit.ly/1tR7NxZ) reports that 30-year-old Jersey City resident Jennifer Cruz could face more serious charges stemming from the May 14 incident. But that decision won’t be made until Hudson County prosecutors receive autopsy reports on the 2-year-old girl.
Prosecutors say the child’s death is considered “suspicious.”
Cruz made her initial court appearance Wednesday, and it was not clear if she has retained a lawyer.
Cruz also faces child endangerment charges for allegedly hitting and injuring her year-old son.
