EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Just in time for the Super Bowl, MetLife Stadium is being recognized for its environmentally friendly food operations.
The stadium has been honored with the title “Certified Green Restaurant” stadium by the Green Restaurant Association. The announcement was made Thursday by Delaware North Companies, the stadium’s food service partner.
Among the measures taken by food service operators at the stadium are converting all kitchen waste oil to biodiesel fuel, composting of kitchen scraps, donating all leftover food and recycling cardboard, plastic, glass and other materials.
MetLife Stadium becomes the largest food service operation to receive the green certification.
The Super Bowl will be played there on February 2.
