TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey authorities say a Philadelphia man has admitted blackmailing a man who responded to his online ad for gay sex.
Steven Beisher pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft by extortion. He’s expected to get a five-year state prison term when he’s sentenced July 11.
The 42-year-old Beisher admitted extorting $1,950 from the victim, a New Jersey resident who included a naked photo of himself when he responded to an ad Beisher posted on Craigslist in August 2012.
Beisher then found the victim’s telephone number and address and called him the following day, threatening to expose the man to his wife and family if he didn’t pay Beisher money. The victim met Beisher seven times over the course of nine days, making payments from $200 to $400.
