JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — The last of four high-volume water pumps has been installed in Jersey City.
Mayor Steve Fulop helped put the discharge pump in place Wednesday.
The pumps will help discharge excess water into the Hudson River during a storm.
Jersey City sustained major flooding during Superstorm Sandy last year.
Fulop says the pumps will help alleviate damage in a flood-prone area that fills with water even after small storms.
Before the pumps were installed, sewers spit water back onto the streets rather than carry it out to the river.
