SOMERVILLE, N.J. (AP) — The son of a former New York Giants Super Bowl champion has rejected a plea offer in an assault by auto case.
The development in the case of Clint Benson was revealed during a court hearing Friday in Somerset County.
Benson is the 22-year-old son of Brad Benson, an offensive lineman on the Giants’ 1987 Super Bowl team.
Clint Benson faces charges of aggravated assault, assault by auto, endangerment and weapons offenses. He’s accused of intentionally running over a man with whom he’d had a dispute outside a bar in Branchburg last year. The man suffered a fractured skull, bruised lungs and other injuries.
Gannett New Jersey (http://mycj.co/1ejPLks) reports Benson would have received a seven-year sentence under the plea offer.
The case could go to trial in October.
