Delays easing after 2 trains stuck in NY-NJ tunnel

NEW YORK (AP) — Amtrak says delays are easing ahead of rush hour after a pair of trains became disabled in the tunnels leading to New Jersey from New York’s Penn Station.

A spokesman says the trains bound for Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and New Orleans, Louisiana both experienced engine problems around 2:15 p.m., Tuesday.

Spokesman Craig Schulz says it was a coincidence the trains became disabled around the same time.

The incidents caused delays of up to an hour on Amtrak and 30 minutes on New Jersey Transit. Trains were running on or close to schedule as of 5 p.m.

Schulz says the Harrisburg-bound train was backed into Penn Station and passengers were booked on other trains.

The crew of the other train was able to fix its problem and continue on toward New Orleans.
