Company: Crew in ferry crash passed alcohol test

11-30-13

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — The three crew members of a ferry boat that hit a pier in Jersey City pier passed alcohol tests that were administered shortly after the accident occurred.

Pat Smith, a spokesman for ferry operator New York Waterway, told The Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/1830pcb) that the captain and two deckhands were also given drug tests following Friday afternoon’s accident. But the results of those tests will not be available until Tuesday.

Alcohol and drug tests are standard procedure following ferry accidents.

The boat — named York — is owned by Goldman Sachs. It was headed from the World Financial Center in New York and was carrying 24 passengers.

Several people fell during the accident, and four were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
